5 Minutes With… Eve Dowling

What does a typical day look like for you?

I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but every day really does look quite different. My one non-negotiable is getting immediate caffeination once I get to the office. I’ll quickly review any stories, news, and emails that came in overnight, then get straight into my inbox. We work with such a great mix of clients at different stages of growth, so my focus is always shifting. Some days I’m buried in the logistics of an upcoming launch, other days we’re helping a bar team develop creative new programming, and some days are spent on the phone making sure we’re landing a partnership or opportunity for a client. It’s definitely never boring!

Which aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?

Coming from a background in business development, I’ve really enjoyed moving into a more creative role. At Accela, we’re lucky to have clients who trust us to tell their stories. My favourite part of the job is sitting with teams to explore the inspiration behind a new concept or launch;  I almost always come away with a cool new story about Singapore’s history or a unique insight into a specific cuisine or culture. There’s a great pride and satisfaction in seeing that initial idea travel from a brainstorm in our office to a full-scale event or a feature in a magazine

Another aspect I would be remiss not to mention is how person-centric my role is; we are constantly meeting new people and hearing about their passion for their work - it's inspiring to hear people talk about something they’ve dedicated so much of their lives to.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I’d love to spend a day at a film studio in a creative exec or development role. I love films and reading - although books have become audiobooks in recent years due to time constraints  - so I think I’d find the process of combing through scripts and submissions to find that next project incredibly rewarding. I also have quite a few friends back in Ireland who work in the film industry, so it would be really lovely to collaborate with them in some capacity and see a project go from the page to the screen

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

Coming from Ireland, where we experience quite a bit more rain than sun, I do try to make the most of the great weather. I try to go for a walk or a cycle. I especially enjoy East Coast Park when it's not too hot. I play some tennis and padel, badly, and recently have tried to start going to yoga more. As I shared above, I am quite a big movie fan, and I try to go as often as I can.

Do you have any “hidden talents”?

Unfortunately, I don’t - not that I know of!
